I am an experienced, compassionate, and qualified healthcare assistant. Confident providing care to the elderly, adults, and young children, as well as those with mental health problems. Due to previous experiences I have had the opportunity to work with a range of people in the care sector such as, people who have disabilities and difficulties in communicating, the elderly in the community and also as a live-in carer. Along with the experiences gained throughout my career, it is my wish to pursue a career in the care profession which has grown. To further my interest in working with and around people I have started a course in nursing, I am doing access to nursing. Throughout this course I'm able to gain valuable knowledge and experience. To further my knowledge and passion for working with people I am continually taking up courses to give me a well rounded knowledge and skills so as I can make a difference to the people I care for. I'm willing to learn always. On my spare times I enjoy sewing. I find this is a good way to express myself. I also like trying new recipes. I find this helps me with my creativity and helps me to relax. I believe I will make a great carer as I have a true passion for this job and person centred approach is how I will work.

I used to be a Personal Assistant for Directors in the Rail Industry. I took a break in my career when I had my children and when they were old enough to go to a play school I stumbled on caring and I have been doing that ever since. I find caring for elderly people very rewarding and enjoy listening to my clients. It is nice to engage with my clients and to find out what they used to love doing, or what career they had. I like reading and I walk a lot. I am originally from South Africa but I have been living in the UK for the last 20 years. I have been a carer for over 15 years, obtained a level 3 in health and social care and worked in various settings including community, residential/care homes, convents, children's hospice. I have cared for people with a variety of needs over the years including, dementia, multiple sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, acquired brain injury and elderly care. I loved having the opportunity to work in different settings and with wonderful people. my last role was caring full time for a young lady with spinal muscular atrophy at home, I worked for her for 9 years until she passed away. Some of my duties included personal care, hoisting using a special hoist system, bathing, dressing, hair styling, facials, manicures, trips to cinema/theatre/pub/holidays, admin, booking/attending hospital appointments, walking and feeding her pet dog. I really enjoy working in the care industry and would love the opportunity to find a new role in a home setting where I can help someone to live as independently and confidently as possible.
