My name is Tshepo. I am very enthusiastic lady with a good sense of humour. I have been in the care sector for 10 years, and hold BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Adult Social Care and Level 2 in. Health Care and Children and Young People s settings. As a cook with a level 3 qualification in professional cookery, my role involves preparing and cooking nutritious and delicious meals for the elderly. I have the skills and knowledge to create meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of older individuals, ensuring that they receive the nourishment they need to stay healthy and well. My expertise allows me to plan menus, source ingredients, and cook meals that are not only tasty but also beneficial for the overall well-being of the elderly clients. My dedication to cooking healthy meals for the elderly contributes to their quality of life and helps them maintain a balanced and nutritious diet. With extensive knowledge of health care services, I am highly experienced in the delivery of individual care plans whilst working in conjuction with community and local authority teams. Skilled in Mental Health Support, with leadership qualities with the ability to conduct patient assessments, supervise the provision of safe and compassionate care, and evaluate care effectiveness. I act with integrity and in the best interest of patients while ensuring compliance with policies and guidelines to promote care settings efficiency.
Over the last five years I have worked as a live-in-carer. I have been with my current client for two and a half years. However, as a new grandparent I would like to have more flexibility with hours that I work in order to help with childcare. Prior to live in care, I have worked in various care roles since qualifying for my HND in adult nursing back in 2011. My first live-in care was for a couple that had not previously had a live-in carer, both were initially very against the idea, not understanding why suddenly they needed to have a stranger living in their home. Although initially a challenge, I managed to quickly put them at ease by reassuring them that I was there to keep them safe and secure in their own home and assist and enable them to maintain their normal routine and lifestyle as much as possible, to be a companion, but also to help them remain independent in their own home and cherish all the memories they’ve made there. I built up a great relationship with both them and their family andI cared for them for a year. Skills and Experience • Empathy, patience and compassion towards others • Personal care, assisting with shower, drying, dressing, shaving etc whilst also respecting their dignity and maintaining their independence where possible. • Monitoring pressure points and pressure care • Helping with mobility, prompting using walking aids where necessary or using hoists • Overseeing medication according to the care plan • Household chores helping around the home, such as vacuuming, cleaning and laundry • Preparing and cooking meals of client’s choice • Running errands and assisting with tasks such as shopping • Updating care plans, reviewing and record keeping • Reporting important details to colleagues to ensure a safe and up to date care for client • Preparing for social outings • Liaising with family, district nurses, Drs and other healthcare professionals • Keeping the home environment safe and secure • Keeping up to date with the Care Certificate modules which cover 15 modules including Basic Life Skills, Moving and Handling and Medication About Me I enjoy driving up to the Lakes and taking the dog for long walks up in the Hills and recently started to do some of the Wainright walks. I absolutely adore all creatures great and small. Although have had cats most of my life I now have a black miniature cockapoo, 15 months old called Kip. He stays with my parents when I am working although I have taken him to work with one of my clients as he loves dogs and requested I bring him along too. I found it actually helped uplift his spirits so it worked well. I also love cooking and experimenting with new healthy ideas and recipes and I can loose myself in painting seascapes, animals, portraits and abstract when I have some spare time. For live in care I prefer to work one week on, one week off, mainly because I don’t like to be apart from my dog for too long. However if a client is a big animal lover and doesn’t mind me bringing him along I would consider working longer.
