My name is Oluwakemi. I like to be known as Kemie. I am an African from Nigeria, but I understand and speak English language very well. I am patient, a good listener, and enjoy working closely with others - especially older people. I have about 4 years experience as a carer but it seems to me like I've been a carer for a lifetime because I'm so passionate about caring for the elderly. I enjoy listening to older people, I am a very patient person and am always happy to work at my clients' pace, following their lead. I have worked in end of life care, people living with dementia, stroke, etc. Helping to make clients comfortable at home as a live-in carer. I work well with other palliative care team members, such as doctors, and also with supporting family members with respite care. I love looking after other people, so when my children left home, I decided to become a carer and continue what I’m really good at. I love reading, watching movies, especially family and true life ones. I am a good cook! It’s a big part of my life, and I love trying out new recipes. I have been a carer from 2015 till now. I also worked as a volunteer with an orphanage charity in Africa when I was younger. Looking after people has always been a pleasure for me, there is no such a good thing than seeing that you are impacted positively people life. I used to look after a young adult for 6 years, he had cerebral palsy and my duties and responsibilities involved medical administration, personal care, cleaning his mickey button, set up his peg, outdoor activities( shopping, pottery class, cookery class, travel by car to see extended family etc). In addition I worked with brain injury people where my duties involved bowel managment, Tracheostomy care, physiotherapy and many more. My motto is always to try to put smile on people face it's not always easy but it's possible.

I started in care after supporting my dad with his end of life care. I'm the youngest of his 9 children and always worked in an office, but whilst caring for my dad I began to wonder how many people are our there who do not have family to look after and care for them at their end of life. So I left my day job with no job to go to, started praying to God for an answer on where and how I could provide the same care I had given my dad to someone who I didn’t even know. The next thing I knew, Live in Care Jobs popped up on my laptop, and the rest is history. From 2017, I have been working in different care settings, starting as a live-in carer, moving into residental care homes, supported living, mental health hospitals, and currently working in the community within mental health. I'm available for sleep in's and evening work as I currently finish work at 5pm.
