“I find working as a Carer an extremely rewarding role as it enables me to focus on people and help my customers fulfil their dreams. I believe that my diverse personal and professional background will really enhance my performance as a live-in carer.” Key areas of experience: dementia, Parkinson’s, depression, Bi-Polar, spinal injuries, learning disabilities, quadriplegia, stroke, Alzheimer’s, hip replacements, bed-bound, hearing impairment. I have worked with a large range of individuals and couples living with medical and age-related conditions including dementia, Parkinson’s and depression to name but a few. I have been required to differentiate between the varying needs of my customers in order to provide them with consistent and relevant care and companionship. Despite being a live-in carer for a number of years, I continued to work with passion and precision and I always prioritised the needs of my customers. I have supported my customers with their personal care, administered their medication and applied prescribed creams. I have completed household tasks which enabled my customers to continue living in clean and comfortable surroundings at home. I have also prepared meals that are suited to my customers dietary requirements, assisted them with feeding when required and prompted my customers to drink plenty of fluids. As some of my customers had dysphagia and difficulty swallowing, I pureed their food and encouraged them to drink thickening liquids. I also have experience in the use of PEG feeding tubes. I have patiently supervised and monitored my customers when they mobilised, whilst also being patient. I have provided my customers with mobility support through the safe and correct use of moving and handling processes and have experience in using mobility aids such as handling belts. When providing care to my customers, I also promote their independence and give them the opportunity to make their own decisions. If I think that they can complete certain tasks independently I consult with my customers and offer sensitive and gentle encouragement to them. However, I always remain close by to offer assistance if required. I use my exceptional communication skills to regularly interact with my customer to find out if they require any additional support. For my customers who had hearing impairments, l gained eye contact and talked in a clear and slow manner. I have even used communication aids such as microphones to ensure my customers understand everything I said to them. I gained my most valuable experience whilst caring for my mother. After my mother was diagnosed with Dementia, I provided her with dedicated care. I feel that because of this personal experience she have “the advantage of understanding the needs of a customer from the perspective of a carer and a family member.” As a result, l am able to adopt a care approach that considers not only the customer, but also their family and all other members involved in their care. Personality I was born in Aberdeen, but grew up in Lagos in Nigeria. I later came back to the UK and am currently residing in Bradford. Having lived and worked in three different countries, I have had the opportunity to relate to people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to music and sermons, and watching Christian channels on TV. I describe myself as a compassionate, empathetic, observant person who is a good listener and sensitive to the needs of others. As a person I believe in honesty, hard work and credibility.
Caring and resourceful healthcare professional with 3+years of experience. Experienced in the care of young people, adults and elderly as well as those with special needs. I have worked as a domiciliary carer, in nursing care homes, residential homes and as a Living-in Carer. Areas of expertise include Parkinson’s disease, PSP, Dementia, young and adult mental health and caring for service users living with chronic diseases like diabetes, arthritis and hypertension. I have an in-depth knowledge of the national care standards and how it applies to different categories of people in care. Committed to the delivery of person-centered care in a dignifying and respectful manner with the goal of helping service users attain independence in their homes, community and even at work. Please get in touch if you think I could help, and I’ll reply as soon as I can. A problem shared is half solved. Thank you
Supporting others in leading an independent life is one of the things that make me an exceptional carer. I have listening ears and willing to make possible adjustments to make life easier for you while giving you best care possible. I am trained and have two years work experience within the health care in continence care, personal care, medication administration, infection and prevention control, etc. Working in the sector and with different care homes has given me a vast wealth of experience.
As an empath and someone who is very passionate about caring for others, I have always been involved in caring and serving others from a young age. From caring for younger siblings and grandparents, to volunteering in religious settings and working with non profit organization to serve and care for others, It has shaped my choices, my educational and career path as well. I have worked professionally in care for over 2 years and within this period, I have worked with different organizations. I have worked with different vulnerable individuals ranging from children, young adults and adults with autism and learning disabilities, individuals at risk of self harming and with emotional behavioural disorder, many of which have suffered previous traumas from physical, sexual abuse, alcohol and drug addictions as well as neglect. Working with different and unique individuals in care for a couple of years now has helped me gain a lot of relevant experience. It has helped me build confidence in supporting these individuals and their needs as I am able to understand them individually and build a positive relationship with them. Also, with relevant trainings and personal development, I am able to communicate clearly, verbally redirect and instruct individuals I care for either alone or in group, whether in service or while they are out in the community. I have also gained relevant experience from working as a team as we work together to handle challenging behaviours from people we care for. I have learnt from older team mates to remain calm and not feel overwhelmed by challenging situations or behaviours but to use appropriate de-escalating techniques or skills i have gained to deal with them.
